This is the 3rd piece I’ve read in two days that has mentioned making/creating something on the theme of “Returning” such beautiful synchronicity in that! Yes to downloads. I’ve been working with these for a number of years now and it’s become easier for me to sort of know how to read/remember/direct them… however, mine still elude the “creation” or translation into a physical artifact. They feel so complete as a perception… which is of infinite fascination.
Synchronicity! Downloads! It’s beautiful to know so many others experience these. I’m sure people call them different things…amazing what can be discovered if the mind is at ease and open 💕
this was wonderful. thank you for sharing about your active practice of the download… almost Lynchian? i wonder how might we all tune our minds to be more open to the download. what a joy to consider. also thank you for the mention of the storyboard guide. look closely and you can see some of your own drawings in the video from our SDL days together. i’m thinking of a new version that has holes to slot into an animators peg board… if for no other reason than to tap the wrist-born memories of that way of drawing
Thank you so much James! For reading, camaraderie, the wonderful tool that is the storyboard guide (a pegboard version would be fun!)...I did indeed spy my drawings! What a joy it was to work together. I thought about Lynch too, the way he engaged with his TDM sessions is such an inspiration. Such an archetype...
Scotland, Highlands 😍💚 Also, "The Download" - I get those too. How my last animation and the one I'm working on came to me. As well as another non-animation project I've been working on for over a year. The Download is definitely part of my work process, and I get them before sleep and before I wake up too.
So cool! Downloads seem fairly common among artists—I know some who get them through meditation, although it can take a little longer (I've heard on the order of 40 min). I'm interested in trying it to see if I retain more information at higher fidelity this way, but I need to prioritize the time. I'd like to.
I like getting mine around a sleeping/semi-conscious state. I’ve had insights into real life situations that way without any way of knowing the facts at all - I freaked a friend out once who I hadn’t talked to in a long time (years) after telling her about a dream I had which accurately described a situation she was in. My mother and grandmother also have had that kind of sense, but for them it was outside of sleep. As for meditation, I feel like I already have my natural method, so it’s enough coming that way. I think that artists must work with something outside of what is rational, they are kind of like mediums in that, so I wouldn’t be surprised that others have this experience, it can be accessed in flow in a certain way - but you are the first I know of who gets these the way that I do. And agreed - very cool to know this. ♥️
